Quinn's witty Regency-set romantic comedies are the nest best thing to Georgette Heyer ― Gloss
The most refreshing and radiant love story you'll read this year
The Duke and I is rich with author Julia Quinn's trademark humour and engaging dialogue... Quinn just keeps getting better and better, a fact that's sure to delight readers
Wise, witty and oh so delightful, Julia Quinn is truly our contemporary Jane Austen
Quinn writes delightfully fast-paced, funny, sparkling and bright romance ― Romantic Times
Light, pacy and full of feisty heroines ― Guardian on the Bridgerton series
Julia Quinn's Bridgerton books take all of the classic tropes we know and love... and gives them a thoroughly modern twist...they're hot, crazy, and full of feisty women relishing in the carnal delights that come from bedding rakish aristocrats... I can't focus on anything else ― Stylist
Julia Quinn started writing her first book one month after finishing university and has been tapping away at her keyboard ever since. The No. 1 New York Times bestselling author of more than two dozen novels, she is a graduate of Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges and is one of only sixteen authors ever to be inducted in the Romance Writers of America Hall of Fame. She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her family.

Yes, end of 2019 and I have started yet ANOTHER series but the mood wants what the mood wants. For me it was a rather slow start but once I got to 30%, it really picked up pace in terms of storyline and I grew to love the dynamic between Daphne and Simon. The fake relationship was just the right kind of length and prominence without becoming irritating and the slow burn to real feelings floated my boat.
I think this family is going to be fun to read about especially these older brothers who I imagine will get their own books, guess I better ready myself to invest in this series (and the netflix series).
The scenes in the book go on and on...To give you some context, 1 conversation is about 10 pages. And honestly, I can't exaggerate how badly written it is. The author feels the need to write "She said sarcastically" after speech that is very obviously sarcastic. After this is done repeatedly it starts to get quite jarring.
I found myself skim reading it. The contrived scenes are cringey, they made me laugh they were so unbelievable. But if you are after some easy reading then this book is for you. You could read it in an afternoon, but you won't remember it the next day.
There are not many occasions when I prefer the film or tv series to the book, in my mind the book is nearly always better, but in this instance I actually thought that the Netflix series was much better. Maybe, it was because the series focused on other characters, other than the Duke and Daphne. This book lacked scope and characters in my opinion, and the story was shallow and predictable. I probably won't bother reading any more and will just stick to watching the series.
